The video above takes you on a real tour through Marble Falls, Texas, a small Hill Country town of about 7,000 people sitting right along the Colorado River in the Highland Lakes area. Located roughly 50 miles northwest of Austin, it's about an hour's drive when traffic cooperates. What comes through pretty quickly is that Marble Falls has quietly become the retail and entertainment hub for the entire Highland Lakes region, and that includes a solid handful of spots featuring live music. David Bridwell stopped through town on his way to a gig in Burnet and walked the downtown Main Street area, checking out restaurants, shops, and live music venues along the way.

A Quick Look at Marble Falls and Its History

The town gets its name from a time when the Colorado River ran lower and you could actually see water cascading over marble-like rocks. That changed in 1951 when a dam was built, covering the falls and creating a lake. The area is known for its granite — enough to keep mining operations going for years. Granite quarried here was used in the Galveston seawall and the Texas State Capitol building in Austin. Beyond the geology, Marble Falls has a genuine small-town community feel, with festivals, Sweet Berry Farm, Hidden Falls Adventure Park, and a walkable downtown with plenty of places to eat and explore.

Where Can You Find Live Music in Marble Falls, Texas?

For a town its size, Marble Falls has a surprisingly good lineup of live music options, most of them within walking distance of each other along the downtown Main Street area. Here are the spots worth knowing about:

  • Our Bar — A casual spot right on Main Street where you can grab a pulled pork sandwich and catch live music
  • Brass Hall — A larger dedicated live music venue located directly across from Our Bar
  • Fiesta Winery — A winery right on Main Street that regularly features live music alongside tastings
  • Double Horn Brewing Company — A local brewery in the downtown area with live music on select nights
  • Adele's Restaurant and Lounge — A restaurant and lounge within walking distance of the other venues, hosting live music
  • Bear King Brewing — Just across the way from downtown, another brewery with live music on the schedule
  • Doc's Fish Camp — A bit of a drive from the Main Street area but still within Marble Falls, known for live music and a laid-back lakeside atmosphere

There's also the Music on Main series held in the Old Oak Square area of downtown, which brings free live music to the street. That's a nice option if you just want to walk around and stumble into something good without committing to a single venue.

Worth the Drive from Austin

If you're coming from Austin and looking for a day trip or weekend destination that combines outdoor activities with a real small-town music scene, Marble Falls is an easy pick. The Highland Lakes area offers plenty of water activities — kayaking, swimming, hiking, biking — and when the sun goes down, the downtown strip has enough going on to fill an evening. David Bridwell ended up continuing on to Burnet to play a set at Trailblazer Grill, but the stop in Marble Falls made it clear this town has more live music than most people would expect.
