The video above takes you on a tour of Weatherford, Texas, covering the historic downtown square and a stop at Lake Weatherford. Located about 30 miles west of Fort Worth, Weatherford has a population just over 30,000 and carries a small-town feel with deep Western and Pioneer heritage. The city calls itself "True Texas," and it's known as both the Cutting Horse Capital of the World and the Peach Capital of Texas. The Parker County Peach Festival is one of the biggest annual events in town. David Bridwell passed through Weatherford on his way to play a gig at Lucky Vines Vineyard and Winery in Dublin, and took the time to walk around and capture what the town has to offer.

Exploring Downtown Weatherford

The centerpiece of downtown is the Parker County Courthouse, a big, striking building that's hard to miss when you're driving in. It sits in the middle of a roundabout with traffic lights, which makes navigating the area a bit tricky — especially on foot with the heavily trafficked roads. Once you do get around the square, there's a solid mix of local shops and spots to eat. You'll find coffee shops, antique stores, bakeries, a hardware store, furniture shops, cafes, restaurants, and even a vintage car museum right off the square. It's a walkable area with enough going on to fill a couple of hours without feeling like a tourist trap.

What Live Music Venues Are Near Downtown Weatherford?

There are actually several places that feature live music within walking distance of the downtown square, which is more than you'd expect for a town this size:

  • Edgewise 8 Brewing — A local brewery near the square that hosts live music nights
  • Northside Remedy — Had live music going on during the visit; a casual spot right in the downtown area
  • Fire Oak Grill — A restaurant near downtown that brings in live performers
  • Downtown Cantina — A Tex-Mex style spot off the square with regular live music
  • Shep's — Another downtown venue that features live music for locals and visitors

Lake Weatherford and Getting Out of Town

After walking the square, Lake Weatherford is worth a quick stop. There's a floating boardwalk that makes it easy to stretch your legs and take in the water, the turtles, and the trees without committing to a full hike. On a mild day, it's a simple, low-key way to enjoy some nature before heading back on the road. From Weatherford, David Bridwell continued west to Dublin, where he played a set at Lucky Vines Vineyard and Winery — a relaxed winery setting where folks were out enjoying the day and the music.
